Chimney Inspections & Sweeping
Our Certified Chimney Sweeps use state of the art equipment to inspect and sweep your home’s chimneys. While sweeping your chimney, we pay attention to detect apparent problems that could prevent peak performance. We will also make recommendations and provide information to ensure your chimney burns safely and cleanly.
The Three Levels of Inspection
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)’s 211 (Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel Burning Appliance) is the standard upon which CSIA-Certified Chimney Sweeps based their services. This new standard now classifies chimney and venting system inspections into three levels. Each level of inspection has a specific scope of work and specific criteria.
Level I InspectionThis inspection is recommended when the chimney and venting system is easily accessible and when the homeowner is planning to maintain its current use. It is recommended that this level is performed annually. In a Level I inspection, a certified chimney sweep verifies that the chimney structure is sound and that the chimney is free of obstructions and combustible deposits.
Level II Inspection
A Level II Inspection is recommended upon the addition of a new home heating appliance, a change in the type of fuel a homeowner is burning, upon the sale or transfer of a property, or after an operating malfunction or external event that is likely to have caused damage to the chimney. The scope of a Level II inspection includes that of the Level I inspection plus the inspection of accessible portions of the attics, crawl spaces, and basement. It may also include a performance test such as a smoke test or a pressure test, and an interior chimney video inspection when recommended by the certified chimney sweep.
Level III Inspection
When a Level I or Level II inspection suggests a hidden hazard and the evaluation cannot be performed without access to concealed areas, a Level III inspection is recommended. This type of inspection confirms the proper construction and condition of concealed portions of the chimney structure and the flue. Level III inspections are generally necessary when investigating an incident that has caused damage to a chimney or building, or where a hazard is detected or suspected.
Ask your customer service representative about video inspecting your chimney, especially is this was not done when you purchased your home.
Fireplaces, Wood Stoves and Furnaces
We specialize in fireplace cleaning and inspections. Our chimney sweeps perform various levels of chimney inspections. We begin by a full inspection from the top of the fireplace where we inspect the chimney cap, chimney crown, flashing, brickwork, and we even check for loose roof shingles. After the inspection, the chimney and fireplace is cleaned. Then our technician will inspect the inside the chimney and fireplace.
This is a full inspection of the smoke chamber, damper, firebox, lintel, hearth, and the ash dump door.
Animal Removal
Animals love rent free spaces that have been constructed by man and chimneys are a great place for animals to live. It can happen every year during the times your chimney is not in use. Critters, birds, and rodents move in and problems arise.
Animals in the chimney can be hazardous to your safety. Whether it’s a nest in the chimney or a squirrel that feel into the stove, these unwanted pests create problems. Should you have a problem, we are a phone call away. Our trained technicians will handle your animal problems.
Video Scans
Our state of the art equipment allows us to inspect the inside of your chimney within inches of the interior of the flue liner. This is the best way to evaluate the interior condition of your flue liner and make a recommendation that is appropriate for your situation.
